UHN Foundation 2021 Annual Report


For the fourth year in a row, UHN Foundation (UHNF) engaged Haft2 to develop their 2020/2021 Annual Report. Haft2 was asked to interpret the theme More Than Hope for both a print and digital version. It was also the first year to include Toronto Rehab as part of the newly amalgamated UHNF. As well, the report also needed to comply with recent AODA requirements.


The report’s theme centred on the realization of More than Hope. Throughout a year when hope was essential to navigating through the new normal, we highlighted the appreciation of both donor activity and the essential worker community alike throughout the report.

For the cover, the design concept graphically reinterpreted More Than Hope as a colourful wordmark using the UHN Foundation’s colour palette. The words dramatically emerge out of the background. The inside design consistently told the UHNF story, highlighting the year’s significant achievements, generous donors, and frontline workers, with colour, graphics and photography. A special upfront COVID-19 editorial section was designed to showcase the stories related to the COVID pandemic.


The annual general meeting highlighted areas of the annual report. The report was well received among staff, donors, and the board of directors. The AODA digital report posted on the Foundation’s website has been downloaded multiple times and has been used as a standard in creating AODA-compliant reports.

The bold use of UHNF brand colour blocking in lettering and shapes created the perfect message for the annual report’s theme, More Than Hope. We strategically used yellow to highlight the word and concept of Hope. While limited, the colour palette is distinctive, and was applied throughout the report.
