Gamboge
It’s May at last! The first long weekend of the season will soon arrive. The clock is ticking on the last frost date. Mother’s Day is coming. Is the excitement of it all overwhelming? This month, Haft2 Colour Calendar brings you a colour that just might calm overwrought nerves – gamboge.
Extracted from the resin of the Garcinia gummi-gutta plant, the rich mustard-yellow colour known as gamboge was first introduced to Europe in the early 1600s, to the joy of such artists as Rembrandt. In fact, gamboge takes its name from the Latin for “pigment”, But most significantly, it is the dye that gives Buddhist monks’ robes that fantastic colour. So, follow the gamboge path . . . and may your May be Zen.
