Seussical Summer Kicks

As a nod to The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish and company, Converse has just released a summer collection of sneaks that look as if they were drawn by Dr. Seuss. Sized for big kids or for real kids, (big kids will get more out of these, I think), the shoe maker has nailed the Seussian aesthetic with a sketcherly line and slap of the right colour. Available for order online here.

ps. We loved these so much that they inspired the Haft2 trend colour palette this week, found on Colourlovers.com as well as on our own homepage, haft2.com. (Did you know we change our homepage trend palette every week?)

A colourful Fall in view

With Spring still freshly, barely here, you may or may not wish to look toward this coming Fall's colours for ladies' fashion, as selected and recently released by Pantone, and outlined in their bi-annual interactive colour report. Rebounding off Spring's sheen and sorbet, this Fall's colours were chosen to enhance the practical woman's wardrobe with some vibrancy and warmth, and probably with some colours you don't already own.

Here's the vibrant link.

The New Bespoke

This holiday season, your tailor is being replaced by a robot. Alton Lane is a custom suit retailer in New York's Flatiron Building. In the shop, they've a black booth to step into - not unlike the security booth at the airport - only this one requires you be in just your underwear. Once inside, lights and lasers and 'the future' will then scan your entire body and record your exact measurements. Then, after selecting style and fabric for your custom duds, someone, somewhere on the other side of the world will fashion a suit made specifically for your body.

Three weeks and less than $500 later, your suit will arrive to your home. And shortly afterward, you'll no doubt be planning your next visit to Alton Lane.

Top 10: For the Eye

Every year at this time, 'Top 10' lists get released: ones that tell us how to dress next year, what cities to travel to, and what music festivals or law schools we should consider attending. Following are a few that caught our eye.

Pantone introduces their 2010 Fashion Color Report, answering the question that people ask us all the time: "What colour will be big next year?" According to Pantone, it'll be from an array of colours that are definitely pretty, but not wimpy; soft pastels that are kept grown-up and sophisticated by their slightly grey cast. Somehow both nostalgic and forward-thinking, they merely hint at another, very adult time.

Here's a summary.

And a downloadable PDF is here.

Let someone else decide

In our ongoing quest to find things to custom order on-line, our friends at Hipstery.com might be at the helm of the next wave of custom ordering, which is this. You don't actually design it / choose it / determine it yourself, you merely supply information to the seller, and based on what they discover about you, they select it for you. Hipstery.com will ask you a number of questions including "What's your preferred method of air travel?" and "At the movies, which armrest belongs to you?". Depending on your answers, a t-shirt is chosen to suit you and sent along. The burden of choice can be daunting.

Here it is

Bring on the fluff! - Disposable Fashion

Summer's upon us, and that means it's time for more fluff in our lives. So here we go.

Who doesn't need more t-shirts? Our new friends - we don't actually know them, it just sounds nice - at RIPT Apparel think the entire world needs more t-shirts. They're so convinced in fact that everyday, they display a different t for sale - only one - and each day the price is $10. Did I mention that each shirt is an original design by a graphic artist? There's even a countdown clock on the left side of the page, displaying how much longer that day's t will be for sale before it's retired into the rafters. (Move over, Wayne Gretzky's 99.)

What better time to stock up, before you start slopping your ice cream and Slush Puppies on the t's you currently own?

Brave Bride

From a recent wedding expo show in China comes this image of a wedding dress covered almost entirely in peacock feathers. The feathers themselves, 2009 in all on this shimmering frock, have long been considered in many cultures to invite trouble and misfortune to those who wear them. Then again, peacocks have survived this long.

The dress took eight sewers forty days to make, and can be yours for $1.5 million USD. What recession?

From Dr. Huxtable's Closet

Taking recycling to a different level are Jenny and Clarissa of The Ugly Sweater Store, which features a small online catalogue of, uh, sweaters that are ugly. And wow, have these been well chosen. They're terrible looking and a visual affront, and yet they'll take you somewhere personal where you may or may not wish to be. All sweaters sold are cheap and deliverable and sure to help you get crowned King of any party to which you dare to wear one.

Extra Extra!

Read all about it. Well, at least read the headline. CNN and Boston's Barbarian Group have teamed up on a venture to bring a selection of CNN.com's headlines to t-shirts near you. The idea is to immortalize newsworthy moments that would otherwise be quite fleeting, along with the rest of what's virtually current. Look for this icon beside featured headlines under the "Latest News" heading to see which shirts are available for mail-order. As I write this, the most intriguing t-shirt available reads "Colossal squid has soccer-ball eyes". Oh yes, we'll be watching this one for some time. Shirt selection differs from day to day.
